Development of Global Limit System
Customer

The client is one of the largest banks in the Scandinavian region. It offers a wide range of financial services including banking, insurance, mortgage finance, asset management, brokerage, real estate and leasing services. The group serves more than 3.5 million retail, corporate and institutional sectors in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The group is ranked amongst the Fortune 500 companies.

Business Need

Global Limit System (GLS) is an internal limit lending, receiving and managing tool of Risk Monitoring and Process (RMP) group of the bank. The system is used by RMP to provide limits to various departments and trader units for trading in financial markets.

The legacy system was developed many years back and did not support the new requirements of the business users. The system required lot of manual intervention for executing the transactions that could be automated. Manual activities like limit book handling, approving etc. reduced the efficiency of transactions.

The system was built on old technology platform that was not supported anymore. In line with “One IT Platform Strategy”, the bank wanted to migrate and reengineer the system from the old technology to a common platform based on mainframe with the system backend integrated with the common internet portal.

How We Helped

As an extended enterprise partner, ITC Infotech has strong knowledge of the development, business and service framework of the client. ITC Infotech leveraged this knowledge to do the migration and reengineering of the GLS in onsite-offshore model.

ITC Infotech did the study and requirements collection at onsite for two months with users and project managers of the client. During this period, the onsite team completed the pre-development tasks like analysis, specification, estimation and planning, and creation of high and low level design. After the design sign-off, the offshore team completed the development, testing for the system. The offshore team was also involved in providing implementation support.

ITC Infotech team learnt various in-house tools developed by the client for this project. The team was trained to also understand the development methodology and technology used by the client. These in-house tools are developed in Mainframe, Microsoft and Java for development and other purposes.

Business Benefits

ITC Infotech successfully completed the project as per the project plan in a period of 11 months. Through an onsite-offshore model, the project delivered significant cost savings to the client. The flexible and configurable design of the system not only meets the current requirements but can also cater to the future requirements easily. The new system offers reporting facilities, multi-currency and multi-language support to help the client improve its daily working processes. ITC Infotech is currently providing continuous support for the system to the users through the dedicated offshore development center (ODC) for the client based in Bangalore (India).
