Manufacturing support enhances the finished product
Customer

The customer is a leading global furniture manufacturer, with more than 500 product lines, approximately 16,000 employees worldwide, manufacturing facilities in over 50 locations and more than 900 dealer locations around the world. They have a comprehensive portfolio of furniture and furniture systems; reconfigurable architectural, technology and lighting products.

Business Need

The majority of our customer’s products are manufactured in-house. One of several such products is wooden work surfaces, or table tops. These are manufactured using computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines, using particle board sheets as the raw material. These machines operate at extremely high speeds and feed rates. The CNC process also allows the customer to quickly and easily tailor products to a given sector in the marketplace using a value-added strategy. This adds to the quality and uniqueness of the finished product.

Programs that drive these machines are critical and a small mistake could lead to compromises on the safety of the operators, wastage of material and interruption of the production line. CNC programs had to be generated, keeping in mind the need for highly accurate deliverables.

How We Helped

Having serviced the customer for the past few years, ITC Infotech’s experienced and certified NC programmers successfully migrated to achieve the required processes. This was tough as the code was generated offshore, while the actual machine was thousands of miles away at our customer’s manufacturing facility. Our consultants spent three months studying the capability of the machine, processes and the parameters involved in generating the required NC code. The process was then successfully off-shored, after setting up a robust working process. We checked all programs meticulously before releasing to ensure safety and quality. Updating the monthly error tracking report helped us to monitor the process and in turn bring down the number of errors.

The same process has now been implemented across other manufacturing facilities of our customer as well.

This engagement has spanned for over a year and ITC Infotech has being adding value by providing continuous inputs.

Business Benefits
  • The end-to-end solution provided by ITC Infotech, ranging from design and analysis to manufacturing support drastically reduced the cost of development and allied processes
  • Reduced cost of the product and its development
  • Extensive training provided helped on standardizing the manufacturing processes across plants
  • Minimal down time of the machines using the difference in time zones between geographies
